Mifal Shoneh Halachos is presenting Yidden the world over
with an offer about the very foundation of Yiddishkeit. At
the cost of just a few minutes each day, you can become part
of a huge enterprise, comprising tens of thousands of
lomdim, who have incorporated the Mishna Berurah Amud
Yomi into their daily regimen.
We must lead our lives according to halacha, and it is
clearly impossible to properly fulfill halacha without
constant study and review. With the Mishna Berurah Amud Yomi
program, the daily study of halachos is remarkably simple and
convenient.
The program has been warmly welcomed by the entire chareidi
community, both in Eretz Yisroel and abroad. Whether learning
the Amud Yomi alone or with a chavrusa, immediately following
the Daf Yomi or in a separate shiur, large segments of the
tzibbur have enriched their lives by becoming part of the
Mishna Berurah Amud Yomi enterprise. The program is for every
group, age, and level of Torah knowledge.
The Mishna Berurah Amud Yomi is fully endorsed by world-
renowned poskei halacha and gedolei Yisroel
HaRav Shmuel Halevi Wosner, author of Shevet Levi
and rosh yeshivas Chachmei Lublin; and HaRav Nissim
Karelitz; as well as HaRav Moshe Shaul Klein; HaRav Ezriel
Auerbach; HaRav Shmuel David Gross; HaRav Sariel Rosenberg;
HaRav Shmuel Eliezer Stern; HaRav Yisroel Ganz and HaRav
Avrohom Direnfeld.
Comparable to the Daf Yomi
HaRav Wosner compared the Amud Yomi to the Daf Yomi,
"Veshneihem ke'echod tovim, They are both good
together."
HaRav Moshe Shaul Klein, a talmid of Rav Wosner, went a step
further and called on "all marbitzei Torah who teach
shiurim, such as the Daf Yomi, to add a few more
minutes of learning for this seder. And without doubt
all will detect the great benefit in this -- both
baalebatim and talmidei chachomim."
Rav Klein added, "I have also joined, bli neder, this
learning seder, and I have already felt its
importance."
This brings to the fore a very significant point. Learning
and reviewing the halachos is equally important for both
Torah scholars, who learn regularly in kollel, as well
as baalebatim.
This reflects the injunction of the Shach: that a person who
does not study halacha has not fulfilled his obligation of
limud Torah, even if he learns gemora
regularly.
Steady Progress
From the day the learning program of the Mishna Berurah Amud
Yomi was instituted, on Lag BaOmer 5762, the study of halacha
became a daily practice for many Yidden -- kollel
avreichim and baalebatim. They have since
completed two volumes of Mishna Berurah, acquiring an
in-depth knowledge of the halachos pertaining to daily life:
laws of waking up in the morning, laws of tefilloh and
also the complex laws of brochos over fruit.
A couple of weeks ago, on 28 Kislev, the third volume of
Mishna Berurah, dealing with hilchos Shabbos,
was begun. Rabbonim and poskim expect that by next
year, after this volume will have been completed, they will
have more informed sheilos on hilchos Shabbos,
since a large segment of the tzibbur will already
be familiar with the laws.
A Golden Opportunity
Interestingly, the rabbonim who initiated the Mishna Berurah
Amud Yomi encountered even more enthusiasm among the public
that they had originally anticipated. This led them to
believe that many more people would be happy to join if they
were aware of the program. The rabbonim have therefore
embarked on a large-scale publicity campaign to bring even
greater numbers of lomdim to participate in this
worthy program, which is vital for every Yid.
Now is the perfect opportunity -- just as the third volume of
Mishna Berurah has begun -- to join the ranks of those
who make the study of halacha their daily regimen, to review
known halachos and to learn new ones. Learning a page of
Mishna Berurah takes no more than a few minutes each
day. The "investment" is minimal, while the "dividends" are
tremendous; no one can deny that this is a truly worthwhile
venture.
Moreover, hilchos Shabbos, which the Amud Yomi program
has recently started, are very practical, essential laws,
which are put into practice each week. It is not always
possible to ask a rov, and if there isn't someone in the
house who knows halacha, a person is liable to make grave
errors. Learning these halachos cannot be considered a
"luxury"; shemiras Shabbos is one of the core issues
of Yiddishkeit, and if we don't have the knowledge, we
are certain to make mistakes.
A Regular Learning Schedule
The Mifal Shoneh Halachos has devoted considerable efforts to
removing all possible barriers. A pocket-sized luach
with a list of each day's learning is available, and now
the organization has published a special edition of Mishna
Berurah with vowels, including the date of that day's
learning at the bottom of each page. There are examinations
for those who wish to test their knowledge, in addition to
periodic large-scale events, with the participation of
lomdim and rabbonim. Mifal Shoneh Halachos also
publishes a booklet, called "Leket Halochoh," which
includes explanations of the halachos learned written by well-
known rabbonim.
Rabbonim Support the Amud Yomi
From HaRav Sariel Rosenberg: "Tanno Devei Eliyohu:
Whoever reviews halachos each day is promised that he will
merit Olom Habo. Chazal taught us that it is not
enough for a person to review halachos and to know halachos.
Rather, there is singular importance in a person learning
halochoh each and every day. The exalted promise mentioned
above applies only to he who reviews halachos each day."
From HaRav Yisroel Ganz, with the agreement of HaRav Ezriel
Auerbach: "The learning of halachos is required for one and
all. Unfortunately, there are very many who are not familiar
with even the simplest halachos. `And Hashem loves shaarei
Tzion,' indicates the she'orim referred to in
halochoh. Certainly all who participate in this [program]
will merit bringing great satisfaction to the Creator of the
world."
