Following the success of the testing during this past Succos,
there will be another session of genetic testing (not
affiliated with Dor Yeshorim) arranged under the auspices of
Genetic Health Victoria -- Professor Agnes Bankier and Dr.
Martin Delatycki -- during the upcoming Pesach Bein Hazmanim
holiday. The exact date is Thursday, 8 April, the first day
of Chol Hamoed, 4.00-4.30 P.M. in the Adass Hall.
A short explanation of the procedure will be given by Dr.
Delatycki, followed by the testing. The test is painless. It
involves taking a swab inside the cheek with a small brush.
No blood is drawn. Since the analysis is done with a modern
gene sequencer, there is no need for blood.
The tests will now cover the same five conditions that Dor
Yeshorim's blood test investigates. Students will be given
this test free of charge, and those undergoing the testing
will receive the results in writing approximately 8 weeks
later. Students aged 16 and above are encouraged to
attend.
If a person's results are negative, then they may marry
anyone else, regardless of whether they are negative or
positive. Furthermore, if both parents are negative for a
condition, then their children may not need testing for that
condition. When in doubt, a genetic counselor should be
consulted.
This test may also be made available at other times. Please
note that no rush results are available. There may be a
charge at other times. According to reports, similar testing
is available in London and Antwerp.
