Mayor Lupoliansky: "The City's Religious Services have not
been Harmed and Won't be Harmed"
by Betzalel Kahn
Jerusalem Mayor Rabbi Uri Lupoliansky says the city's
religious service have not been harmed and he intends to
ensure that they will continue to operate as usual, despite
the city's budgetary problems.
In response to a question posed to him during a City Council
meeting on the Religious Council's operation and provision of
religious services, the Mayor said the City will see to it
that all Religious Council workers, mashgichim,
inspectors, mikveh operators and all of the other employees
and suppliers will not be harmed as a result of the financial
crisis in order to allow all religious services to remain
available to the public.
"Just as the City of Jerusalem continues to function and,
despite the budgetary difficulties, pays workers' salaries on
time, unlike other local authorities, so too will we ensure
that Religious Council workers receive their wages on time,"
said Rabbi Lupoliansky. "The Municipality calls on the
government to reach a clear decision regarding its position
on the issue of religious councils and the difficult
budgetary crisis they are embroiled in."
