Teaching Nevi'im and Kesuvim in girls' schools
and to tinokos shel beis rabbon is a holy task to
which not everyone is accustomed. While teaching Chumosh
is given over to many through Krias HaTorah and numerous
commentaries are available, Nach is often more
difficult--gan na'ul vechasum.
HaRav Moshe Karp, a veteran educator in Bnei Brak, conceived
an idea to bring together a concise explanation based on all
of the Nach commentators and to print it on the page
below the verses of the Novi. HaRav Karp turned his
thoughts into action and after much toil the first in the
Nevi'im Ukesuvim Mevu'orim series, the Yeshayoh
volume, has been published.
A glance at the book shows the compiler achieved the goal he
set for himself. Studying this work makes the task of
teaching Nach a real joy, with brief background
summaries before every chapter and a fluid, readable text to
elucidate the verses. Of course, the entire work is based on
the interpretations of the Rishonim.
Since the book is intended primarily for teachers of Nach,
the author brings only his own explanation on the
page.
The front material includes an approbation by HaRav Tzvi
Friedman, a member of the Shearis Yisroel beis din and
the rov of Or Hachaim, which reads, "This work is an
explanation of the commentaries on sefer Yeshayahu and
is unique in that it is combined with the verses, thereby
allowing fluid reading, and the learner absorbs the contents
of the verses immediately and understands them thoroughly.
Therefore it is very useful from every standpoint and apt to
draw people into learning the words of the Novi.
"Notably [HaRav Karp's] explanation is compiled from the
great commentators, whose words are tastefully woven in with
the verses. This book is certainly of much use and I hereby
extend my blessings that he may continue to expand this
endeavor with the other books of Nach."
Along with this approbation are others by HaRav B.D.
Povarsky, HaRav M.A. Rosental and HaRav Y. Edelstein.
May the distinguished author succeed in completing his task
for the benefit of the entire public.
