The Knesset plenum passed an amendment to the National
Insurance Law in second and third readings to add NIS 200 to
the grant given following the birth of a second child
(only).
According to the government-initiated amendment the grant for
a second child will be 9 percent of the average monthly
salary, which will raise the birth grant from NIS 430 ($95)
to NIS 630 ($140).
The economic plan approved ten months ago completely
cancelled grants, starting with the birth of a third child.
Only for the first child was it decided to provide a full
child grant, while for the second child it was decided to
give a reduced grant of 6 percent of the average monthly
wages.
The amendment recently passed followed a demand by Shinui to
raise the birth grant for a second child by NIS 200.
