Graduation to Independence
by Yated Ne'eman Staff
A group of ladies living in one of Yad Voezer's Supported
Housing projects in London for people with learning
disabilities have completed a three year Food Preparation and
Cookery course and have graduated with Honors. A reception to
celebrate their achievements was held in the presence of
friends, relatives and staff at the home in Osbaldeston Road
where course participants had prepared a most attractive
buffet for the guests.
Prizes and certificates of proficiency were presented by Mrs.
Z. Landau, Executive Director of Yad Voezer. A Vote of Thanks
was given to the instructor, Mrs. Y. Domb, in recognition of
her input, which has been a major factor in providing the
residents with the skill and confidence to undertake even the
most intricate recipes.
The cookery course is one of several of Yad Voezer's projects
to support people with learning disabilities to live more
independently in the kehilla. Neighbors and friends
have been most supportive and the success of this project
demonstrates that people with learning disabilities are able,
with the appropriate professional support, to live full and
satisfying lives in their own homes.
Another supported Housing Project is now in the planning
stages and will accommodate five residents of varying levels
of disability. This home is expected to open early next
year.
