Conference of European Rabbis Meets in Geneva
by Eliezer Rauchberger
The Conference of European Rabbis' Standing Committee, which
meets bi-annually, held a meeting in Geneva last week headed
by HaRav Yosef Chaim Sitruk, Chief Rabbi of France.
The committee met to discuss a long list of topics, including
sending an enthusiastic letter of support to committee member
Yaakov Bleich, Chief Rabbi of the Ukraine, in which the
rabbonim note his tremendous activities and successes in
setting up spiritual infrastructures and Torah and
chesed institutions throughout the Ukraine over the
course of more than a decade. Nobody has the right to
challenge HaRav Bleich's authority in the Ukraine, they
added, saying rabbonim have been facing formidable challenges
requiring them to build something out of nothing and
therefore this is a time for encouragement rather than
slackening.
The Conference of European Rabbis brings together more than
400 rabbis of kehillos from Ireland to Russia and
meets once every two years.
