The Elad Local Council fired Rabbi Tzuriel Krispal from his
job as council head by a six-to-two vote with one
abstention.
Last Thursday evening the council held a special meeting with
the issue of the council head's dismissal topping the agenda.
The meeting came after Elad residents lodged serious
allegations against Rabbi Krispal in a petition filed by
Attorney Tzemach Green. Judge Pilpel ruled that the council
members should convene a special meeting to discuss
dismissing Rabbi Krispal for unbecoming conduct.
At the beginning of the meeting Council Head Rabbi Krispal
asked his alternate, Rabbi Yaakov Asher, to run the
proceedings. Three United Torah Jewry council members, two
Shas council members and one Mafdal council member voted in
favor of discharging the council head. Rabbi Krispal
announced he would appeal the decision in court.
By law the Minister of the Interior must approve a decision
by council members to dismiss a council head from his
post.
