Hundreds of Rosh HaAyin residents held a demonstration on
Shabbos Parshas Beshalach to protest against a
MacDonald's restaurant open on Shabbos at a shopping mall
located in the Tal neighborhood.
Hundreds of chareidi residents, led by moroh de'asra
Rav A. Basis, sat out in the rain to oppose the city's first
MacDonald's, which operates on Shabbos and sells bosor
becholov. The protesters stood in pouring rain, singing
Shabbos songs and reciting Tehillim.
At an adjacent counter-demonstration sponsored by Shinui,
about thirty people sang songs to the accompaniment of
recorded music played on loudspeakers.
Rosh HaAyin residents are asking that anyone in a position to
act make every effort to have the restaurant closed, since it
represents a dangerous precedent that threatens to tear down
the wall of Shabbos in the city, chas vesholom.
