BOOK REVIEW "Yes, You Can! A Guide to Success in Life"
by Aron Friedman, Artscroll Publ.
reviewed by Rosally Saltsman
One of my favorite aphorims is "There's no such thing as
`can't.' " I say this to my son all the time. Classes in
positive thinking have been `in' for years, even though many
of their precepts date back to the Sages of the Talmud.
There are numerous books on self-actualization, positive
thinking and self- help on the market but one of the best I
have ever read is a new book called, Yes, You Can! A Guide
to Success in Life, by Aron Friedman, expertly translated
from the Hebrew Gam Atta Yachol by Esther van
Handel.
Friedman discusses all areas on which success hinges: setting
goals, rewriting inner scripts, reaching one's potential,
realistic expectations, perspective and faith in Hashem. This
book is practical as well as philosophical, technical as well
as psychological. A Belzer chossid and an astute
counselor, Friedman has written his book in such a way as to
make positive change look as simple as looking in a different
direction and taking just one step in it. I was so
enthusiastic after reading only part of the book that I
started raving about it. The people I raved to had already
heard its praises sung.
The book intersperses technique and insights with quotes from
the Tanach and the Talmud, interesting tidbits of historical
information, personal stories and quotes. It is well written,
well organized and well worth your time. Even the book's
cover is uplifting.
Friedman, of course, repeats my favorite aphorism in his
book. In my opinion, the one thing you can't do is not read
this book.
