Israel: All-Out War on Hamas

In a major strategic shift that was reported at last Monday's routine Cabinet meeting, Israel said that it will wage an all- out, unrelenting war on Hamas and other terrorist groups, including all members of its leadership without any special immunity for political leaders. This change in policy has not been noted in the general media.

83,621 Students Enrolled in Chareidi Education System in Jerusalem

In Jerusalem, the gap between the number of students in the chareidi education system versus other sectors is widening in the 5764 school year. A total of 188,176 students are enrolled in Jerusalem schools, with 83,621 students enrolled in the chareidi education system compared to 64,201 in government and religious government schools and 40,354 in the Arab sector, according to figures presented at a press conference held by Mayor Rabbi Uri Lupoliansky last week.

Significant Increase in Number of Bnei Brak Students; Beitar Grows Fast

The number of students enrolled in Bnei Brak kindergartens, schools and other educational institutions rose from 52,000 last year to 53,388 this year--the largest relative increase in all of the Dan Region.

Knesset Committee on Public Complaints to Hold Hearings on Crowding in Buses

Private Daniel Hiller was found dead at his Israel Defense Forces base on May 30, 2001. An autopsy performed on his body at the National Institute of Forensic Medicine (NIFM) at Abu Kabir in Tel Aviv by Dr. Bertold Levy, showed that he had committed suicide.

Plan to Transfer Rabbinical Courts to Justice Ministry Delayed

The Prime Minister's Office has decided to postpone the government plenum to weigh transferring the Rabbinical Courts from the Religious Affairs Ministry to the Justice Ministry following harsh criticism against the proposed move, which would make Justice Minister Tommy Lapid (Shinui) chairman of the Dayanim Selection Committee.
