Israeli Media: It's Rav Samet's fault that He Was Killed

On Wednesday afternoon 6 Kislev, Elchanan Chakun, owner of Photo Alain on Yechezkel Street in Geula, pushed 71-year-old Rav Yehudah Samet several times, eventually knocking him down. Rav Samet hit his head on a police van as he was falling, and a week later died from that injury.

Death at Emmanuel

At around 6:00 p.m., as the lights of Emmanuel came into view, passengers on the bus from Bnei Brak had begun to stand up, straighten the wrinkles out of their clothes and gather their belongings -- when the bomb went off. Arab terrorists lying in wait on the hill alongside the road detonated two bombs. The explosions were not particularly powerful, but were enough to kill several of the passengers and to cause considerable damage to the bus.

On motzei Shabbos 24 Kislev at chatzos, a large throng accompanied R' Chaim Halevi Soloveitchik, zt"l, son of the Brisker Rov, ztv"l on his last earthly journey. Eighty-three years old at the time of his petiroh, the niftar suffered for many years with illness.

New Studies Try to Count All and Only Jews

The 2000 National Jewish Population Survey, which was conducted last year, expects to release its results some time in the next six to nine months. One of the most controversial findings of the previous survey conducted in 1990 was the 52% intermarriage rate it reported. The new results are planned to follow a system intended to clear up some of the controversy.

CER Protests Destruction of R' Yisroel's Grave and Increasing Russian Antisemitism

The grave and tombstone of the Gaon Reb Yisroel Salanter, founder of the Mussar movement in yeshivas, was totally destroyed by vandals. Daubings of "Death to the Jews" and swastikas were painted around the area. A wall commemorating the holocaust was also destroyed and the gate surrounding the cemetery was pulled down.
