Against the background of the ongoing Shabbos desecration of
Foreign Affairs Minister Shimon Peres, UTJ will soon meet to
discuss ways to protest his behavior. It will also discuss its
future participation in the coalition.
This past Shabbos morning (Shabbos Teshuva), Peres met with
top-ranking officials of the PLO in order to prepare for his
expected meeting with Arafat on Sunday evening. As a result of
these meetings, scores of Israeli security guards had to
desecrate the Shabbos.
Yated Ne'eman's reporter discussed the issue with Rabbi
Avrohom Ravitz and Rabbi Moshe Gafni, who told him about the
escalating anger against Prime Minister Sharon, for his
failure to react to the behavior of Shimon Peres, who
systematically desecrates Shabbos both in Israel and
abroad.
At their forthcoming meeting UTJ's officials will discuss the
measures they will take on this point. They will do so only
after consulting the gedolei Yisroel.
UTJ's Knesset members remind us that only last week, Sharon
apologized for the Shabbos desecration of the previous week,
and promised that such desecration would not recur.
