U.S. President Bush Presents a Viable Vision for the
Middle East: A New Palestinian Leadership
by Mordecai Plaut and Yated Ne'eman Staff
In a speech that seems likely to set the framework for all
diplomatic activity in the Middle East, at least for the
short and intermediate term, President George W. Bush defined
the issues and discussed his view of the next few steps to be
taken in order to move beyond the current violence and
instability. The key point the US president made is that the
Palestinian people must find "new leaders, leaders not
compromised by terror."
Israel Interest Rates Raised Again
by Yated Ne'eman Staff
The Bank of Israel increased shekel interest rates on Monday
by two percentage points, to 9.1 percent. Since the beginning
of the month, the interest has been raised by 4.5 percent. On
Tuesday, in response, the dollar fell to NIS 4.92 to the
dollar and the Tel Aviv stock exchange rose, as expected.

Dr. Moshe Zeev Gottlieb, Hy'd
by Betzalel Kahn
The Torah community in Jerusalem's Gilo neighborhood was
stunned last week following the announcement that Dr. Moshe
Zeev Gottlieb Hy'd, a man of chesed and Torah,
was among the casualties of last week's bus bombing at Pat
Junction.
Avrohom Eliyohu Nechmad Hy'd
Thousands participated in the levaya last week of 17-
year-old Avrohom Eliyohu Nechmad Hy'd, who died of
injuries sustained four months ago in the bombing attack in
Jerusalem's Beis Yisroel neighborhood.
OPINION &
COMMENT
Antisemitism is Unstoppable
The world is sliding down a slippery slope greased by the
yetzer hora.
Fifty years ago, it seemed that the West, and especially the
United States, was a society that was fairly moral in the
specific sense that it upheld the Seven Laws of Noach. The
largely Protestant country was free of avoda zora,
there was a very developed legal system that enforced laws
against murder in all its forms, 80 percent of all households
were headed by a married couple, and all public, acceptable
behavior upheld reasonable moral principles.
