HaRav Aharon Soloveitchik, zt"l

HaRav Aharon Soloveitchik, rosh yeshiva and founder of
Chicago's Yeshivas Brisk and senior rosh yeshiva at
Yeshiva University's Rabbi Isaac Elchonon Theological
Seminary, passed away in Chicago on chol hamoed
Succos. Previously he served as a ram in Yeshivas
Rabbeinu Chaim Berlin in Brooklyn under HaRav Yitzchok Hutner
zt"l.
Rav Aharon was known as a boki in rishonim and
a lamdan in the Brisker derech he received from
his father. He was the zkan horabbonim in Chicago and
served as chairman of the Halachic Committee of the Merkaz
HaRabbonim, the Chicago Orthodox Rabbinate.
HaRav Aharon HaLevi Soloveitchik was the youngest of HaRav
Moshe and Pesha Soloveitchik's children. Born in Khaslavichy,
Russia on May 1, 1917 (5677), he came to America as a youth
when his father was rosh yeshiva at Yeshivas Rabbenu
Yitzchok Elchonon. His main learning was from his father
HaRav Moshe, zt"l, oldest son of HaRav Chaim
Soloveitchik of Brisk. He was also an honors graduate of New
York University School of Law.
"It is not just that Rav Aharon is the only rosh
yeshiva that speaks about Biafra", his lifelong friend
Rav Mordechai Gifter, zt"l, once explained. "It's that he is
the only rosh yeshiva who ever heard of Biafra."
The burial took place on Har Hazeisim in Yerushalayim. He is
survived by four sons and two daughters and their families,
who follow in his footsteps.
