Ashkavtei DeRebbi -- The Levaya
On Thursday night, 16 Marcheshvon, a heavy pall of mourning
enveloped all sectors of Torah Jewry in Eretz Yisroel and
abroad, as it was learned that Maran HaGaon Hagodol HaRav
Elozor Menachem Mann Shach, ztvk"l, rosh yeshiva of
the Ponevezh yeshiva, returned his pure soul to its Maker.
Maran was Rosh Kol Bnei Hagolah, Am Yisroel's helmsman
and one of the remnants of Knesses Hagedolah. He is deeply
mourned by the entire Jewish people, and in particular by his
many students who loved and esteemed him as their beacon of
light.
Maran HaGaon Hagodol HaRav
Elozor Menachem Mann Shach ztvk"l
His Biography
HaRav Shach was born to Rav Ezriel zt"l and Bat Sheva
of the Levitan family, a family of talmidei chachomim
who served as rabbonim in important Lithuanian communities.
Her brother was HaRav Nisan Levitan zt"l, who became
one of the most senior figures in Agudas HaRabbonim of
America.

Tzvi Bergman, Rosh Yeshivas Rashbi, Bnei Brak at the Levaya
on Erev Shabbos Parshas Vayeiro
We have become orphans; our father is gone!
We have been virtual orphans for the past few years. The Rosh
Yeshiva did not want to speak or to lead; he remained closed
up within himself. But our father was still at home. Now we
have reached the stage where "our father is gone." Our father
has been taken away.
Police Force at HaRav Shach's Levaya: Bnei Brak Closed to
Traffic
by Betzalel Kahn
A large contingent of police stood guard on Friday at all of
Bnei Brak's entrances and on the streets where the
levaya's massive throng of participants passed by.
According to police estimates hundreds of thousands
participated in the levaya of Maran Rosh Hayeshiva,
ztvk'l. The estimate broadcast over the radio was
400,000 participants.

by Betzalel Kahn
Tens of participants at the levaya were treated for
the overcrowding and for dehydration. Bnei Brak residents
prepared water to quench the thirst of the many mourners. All
of the volunteer paramedic organizations in conjunction with
Magen David Adom (MDA) made quick and very effective
preparations to meet the contingencies of the levaya.
The paramedics were at every possible place throughout the
funeral procession of Maran Rosh Hayeshiva, ztvk'l.
Unprecedented Media Coverage of HaRav Shach's Passing
by Betzalel Kahn
The electronic news media gave extensive coverage about the
passing of Maran Rosh Hayeshiva, ztvk'l. The media
reported biographical sketches and news about his funeral
procession.
Rabbeinu Hagodol Ztvk'l
By Nosson Zeev Grossma
The pen is inadequate, especially at these difficult hours of
piercing pain and confusion, due to the terrible tragedy
comparable to the Bais Hamikdosh burning. However, we
must at least try to put into words, for the sake of future
generations, a small part of the shining image of Rabbeinu
Hagodol ztvk'l.
From the Pages of Yated Ne'eman about Maran HaRav Shach ztvk"l
by Yated Ne'eman Staff
This is a sampling of stories and anecdotes told by HaRav
Shach and about HaRav Shach that appeared in the pages of
Yated Ne'eman in the past few years. Where necessary
we have provided a few remarks to make the context
clear.
OPINION &
COMMENT
Talking About Maran HaRav Shach ztvk"l
Virtually the entire chareidi world is now learning, for the
first time ever, what it is like to live in a world without
Maran HaRav Shach, zt"l. For over ninety years he was
part of the yeshiva world, and for most of them he was at or
near its summit.

PREPARING FOR THE FUTURE
Refinement Through Speech
by R' Zvi Zobin
A week after Shavuos, Mr. and Mrs. Israel left their little
Yeshayale by their uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Fried, while
they went shopping. Yeshayale is a normal, active little boy
and it was not long before he did something which brought on
him a few words of rebuke from his aunt.
