The visit of the students of the Beis Achiezer yeshiva of
Ashkelon to the home of Maran HaRav Yosef Sholom Eliashiv was
a stirring event which strengthened and uplifted them in
ruchniyus. Maran HaRav Eliashiv examined the students
and discussed the sugyos studied in the yeshiva with
them for quite a while, marveling at the extent of their
knowledge.
At the end of every zman in Beis Achiezer, the
students conduct a general and comprehensive review of the
material studied throughout the zman. Afterwards they
are tested by gedolei Yisroel, arranged by the rosh
yeshiva HaRav Avrohom Reisman, with the aim of encouraging
the students to review what they have studied. In the past,
some students were even successfully tested on complete
masechtos by heart.
Last year, the students were tested by HaRav Aaron Yehuda
Leib Shteinman and HaRav Michel Yehuda Lefkowitz, who also
marveled at the extent of their knowledge.
At the end of this year's winter zman, the students
were privileged to visit Maran HaRav Yosef Sholom Eliashiv,
who agreed to devote some of his time in order to test them
on the material they had studied during the winter, and to
discuss those sugyos with them.
As the date of the examination neared the students'
excitement reached a peak, and they increased their
hasmodoh in the study of Gittin. When they
entered Maran's home, he began with extensive questions on
the sugyos they had studied, and marveled at their
pointed and clear answers.
Afterward, Maran clarified some halachic points which arise
from the sugya of befonai nechtav uvefonai
nechtam and closed with praise for the breadth of the
students' knowledge and for their deep understanding of the
sugyos.
Then Maran personally blessed each bochur that he
continue to progress in Torah and yiras Shomayim.
From there, the students proceeded to the home of the
mashgiach, HaRav Shlomo Wolbe, who delivered a mussar
and chizuk talk in time for the Pesach bein
hazmanim and the summer zman. In his speech, HaRav
Wolbe stressed the importance of order in life and of
studying at set and orderly times, and of davening at
set times too. He said that one who maintains order is
guaranteed success in Torah and yiras Shomayim.. If one
falls chas vesholom, he said, it is because he doesn't
know how to organize his time properly. At the close of his
speech, HaRav Wolbe blessed the students with
hatzlochoh in Torah and yiras Shomayim.
The students returned to their yeshiva in an uplifted mood,
determined to continue their studies with hasmodoh and
added strength within the yeshiva's framework.
