The following is a translation of the editorial of the
Hebrew edition of Yated Ne'eman on Tuesday.
The abject murder which occurred Monday night in Hebron
lowers the cruelty-level of Palestinian terror to an
additional depth of corruption and savage depravity. If,
regretfully, we have nearly "grown accustomed" to the
murders of peaceful citizens -- men, women and children --
who are injured or killed by bombs which strew death in
their environs and, without discernment, cause the death or
injury of whoever happens to be in their vicinity, this time
a deliberate and calculated murder of an infant took
place.
The Palestinian snipers who aimed their guns at the Abu
Snena neighborhood in Hebron, focused their gunsights on a
father and his infant daughter. The despicable shooting
achieved its aim and a ten-month-old Jewish baby was killed
by the sniper's bullets.
Even though this is an individual occurrence, we regard it
as a sorry indication of the character of our Palestinian
"partner." That sniper who aimed his gun at a baby without
trembling, did so after having been nurtured by concentrated
portions of rabid and prolonged incitement in the campaign
of hatred waged incessantly in the Palestinian media, and
constantly issuing from the mouths of top-ranking leaders in
the autonomy headed by Arafat. That antisemitic and anti-
human incitement which regards every Jew no matter who he is
as a murder-target, is now producing horrid fruit.
There is no doubt that this murder will result in rethinking
strategies and will cause those in charge of the political
and security areas to revamp their thinking.
But we, who are not responsible for these areas, must wake
up, and draw the most vital and necessary conclusions. We
must ask ourselves: Why has Hashem done this to us? Why has
He decreed that we live in the proximity of merciless
enemies who are totally devoid of human feelings, and as a
result are capable of the cold-blooded murder of infants?
