Buses Went Up Monday, Gas Prices Down
by G. Lazar

Public transport tariffs rose as of Monday (January 1) by an average of two percent. According to the new tariff, a bus ride inside Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Haifa and cities in Gush- Dan will now cost 4.80 NIS instead of 4.70 NIS. In other cities and settlements the cost of a bus ride will be 4.10 NIS instead of 4.00 NIS.

The bus ride from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv on the 405 bus will now cost 18.40 NIS instead of 18.00 NIS. A ride from Tel- Aviv to Haifa will cost 21.00 NIS instead of 20.50 NIS.

Good news for drivers: gas is seven percent cheaper. Gasoline 95 and 96 octane will be reduced by 30 agorot per liter (to NIS 3.84), solar gas for transport and crude oil will be 22 percent cheaper and solar gas for heating and kerosene will be reduced by 28 percent.

It is feared that the supply of gasoline within Israel may be disrupted over the next few days: workers of the National Company for Energy and Gas Infrastructure are disrupting the supply of gas to gas stations throughout Israel and to certain government companies. In addition, it is also expected that there will be a disruption in the supply of gas to airplanes in airports throughout the country. The government wants to privatize the distribution of these energy products, and the workers want assurances that their rights will be safeguarded. They say that there are signed agreements that the government is not honoring.
