Egged Missed the Bus
by S. Fried
Many Egged customers are unsatisfied with recent changes in
the Jerusalem chareidi neighborhood bus lines, especially
the 11 and the 15 lines. As soon as the changes went into
effect, numerous residents of Har Nof, Givat Shaul, Ramat
Shlomo, Katamon and Geula began to file complaints about the
buses' failure to adhere to their timetables, overcrowding
on the buses and the lack of direct access to needed
destinations.
Egged claims that neighborhood committees had been conferred
with concerning all changes, and all problems will be dealt
with. The residents, on the other hand, continue to protest
Egged's inflexibility and the inequity of the new routes.
Complaints by residents of Har Nof and Ramat Shlomo mainly
concern the 11 bus operation on Givat Shaul's Beit Hadfus
Street, mainly in the afternoon and evening hours. Residents
of Katamon and Geula have other complaints about bus no.
15.
In response to our questions, Egged says that the company is
doing the maximum to solve the various problems to the
passengers' satisfaction. A team comprised of chareidi
neighborhood residents and Municipal representatives to deal
with these problems was recently set up. Egged also plans to
position special observers along the problematic routes to
pinpoint the areas needing improvement.
Egged emphasizes that due to the opposition to the changes
that were made on the lines to Ramot, it has decided to
defer making any additional changes until the neighborhood
forms a committee representing all residents and all parts
of the neighborhood. Together with the committee, Egged will
be able to determine the necessary route revisions in a
manner that will benefit all parties.
