Ovos Uvonim in South Africa
by Yated Ne'eman Staff
The remarkable international success of the Ovos Uvonim
father-son learning program, has not skipped over the
continent of Africa. Way down south in the leafy northern
suburbs of Johannesburg, dozens of young boys have been
gathering together with their fathers every motzei
Shabbos, to strengthen their connection to the vital
chains of our mesorah.
Attendance has been rising over the past few months, and
recently a total of over one hundred boys were accounted
for, bringing the total number of attendees to close on two
hundred, fathers included. It is truly a sight to behold,
for seldom does a South African beis medrash roar in
the way that it does every motzei Shabbos, with sweet
young voices merging with those of their fathers.
Numerous individual shuls and batei medrashos support
the program, and each school term, the venue is relocated to
another participating beis medrash. The program has
been running in its current format for close on a year,
although individual batei medrashos were running
similar programs from before then.
Today, the initiative is ably run by HaRav Sender Grossnas
and Asher Goldberg, whose efforts have ensured the
incredible success of the program.
