HaRav Elimelech Shraga Kornfeld Inaugurated Rav of
Kehillas HaGra in Beit Shemesh
by Betzalel Kahn
HaRav Elimelech Shraga Kornfeld, newly appointed rav and
moreh tzedek of the eminent Kehillas HaGra community
in Ramat Beit Shemesh, was welcomed last week at a gala
induction ceremony. The event was attended by maranan
verabonon, the gedolei haTorah, as well as by
local rabbonim and many residents.
The Kehillas HaGra community was one of the first in the new
community of Ramat Beit Shemesh, playing a major role in
shaping the neighborhood's Torah character. A majority of
the residents are bnei Torah from abroad. Many
members of this community work for their livings, yet
maintain fixed Torah study sessions and lead Torah-true
lives. The community hosts about one hundred shiurim
monthly. A kollel baalei batim functions daily, and
there is also a special Friday kollel.
HaRav Elimelech Shraga Kornfeld learned shimush under
HaRav Nissim Karelitz and HaRav Moshe Halberstam.
Blessings were delivered at the gala event by HaRav Nissim
Karelitz; HaRav Shmuel Auerbach, rosh yeshiva of
Maalos HaTorah; HaRav Shlomo Zalman Perlstein, the moro
de'asra; HaRav Aharon Feldman, Rav Kornfeld's father-in-
law; HaRav Chaim Sarna, the rosh yeshiva of Chevron
Geula; HaRav Kornfeld and HaRav Tal Doer, a ram in
the local Or Tzion community. HaRav Sholom Ber Sorotzkin,
rosh yeshiva of the Or Eliezer Yeshiva Ketana, was
honored with reading the document of appointment, signed by
the gedolei Yisroel.
