Sheloshim Marked in Manchester
by Yated Ne'eman Staff
Last week, Yeshivas Shaarei Torah in Manchester marked the
sheloshim of the late Sir Sidney Hamburger z"l
with a siyum on Shisho Sidrei Mishnah.
Following completion of the last Mishnah by Reb
Gavriel Brodie, HaRav Gavriel Knopfler, the Rosh Yeshiva,
described the special affinity Sir Sidney had with the
yeshiva, referring to the help he had supplied from its
infancy to the present time. Whilst representing Orthodox
Jewry with pride, Sir Sidney was also an ambassador of peace
and unity for the entire community. These sentiments were
echoed by Rabbi Yossi Chazan who used the last
Mishnah in Shas to depict Sir Sidney's
qualities.
In his response, Sir Sidney's elder son Herzl thanked the
Yeshiva for paying this tribute. He spoke warmly about his
father's love for Torah institutions and pledged to continue
his family's support for the Yeshiva. Mr. Yehuda Brodie
chaired the proceedings.
