The Average Salary is Now NIS 6,928
by Yated Ne'eman Staff

The average gross salary in Israel was NIS 6,928 ($1690) at the end of September, after a sharp 7% real increase in the third quarter, compared to the corresponding quarter last year, according to the Central Bureau of Statistics.

The highest increase was seen in the high-tech sector -- 26%, to an average salary of NIS 20-25,000 ($5-6000), more than three times the average salary of the rest of the workers.

There were also high increases in the business services sector (13.3%); electricity and water (11.7%); and banking and insurance (10.8%).

There are particularly high salaries for electricity and water employees. Israel Electric Corporation and Mekorot employees earned an average of NIS 17,392 ($4,200) -- 2.5 times the average salary in the economy.

Bank, insurance companies and financial sector employees are in third place in the wage table, earning an average NIS 12,012 ($2900), 73% above the average salary in the economy.

The lowest salaries were paid to employees in cafes, restaurants and other catering services -- only NIS 3,581 ($875), 49% of the average salary in the economy. Salaries in this sector have risen 5.5% since the beginning of the year.
