On Sunday 17th September (17th Elul) a reception was held at
the home of the Chief Rabbi Dr. Jonathan Sacks, when Mrs.
Shelley Groszman of Golders Green was the only London
recipient of the Putting Families First Award 2000. This
award was established by the Jewish Marriage Council and is
given once every two years to individuals who have shown
exemplary, unselfish devotion and commitment to families.
The panel of Judges who acted as assessors were led by its
Chairman Mrs. Esther Tager (wife of Mr. R. Tager Q.C.) and
included Judge Myrella Cohen, Sir Sidney Hamburger, Lord
Justice Rix, and Mrs. Elaine Sacks.
Mrs. Groszman received this award in her personal name, but
in particular for the establishment of Chana, the
organization which under rabbinical guidance advises our
kehilloh about infertility problems. The numerous
dignitaries at the Reception included Lady Jacobovits and her
Honor Judge Dawn Freedman, the President and Chairman of the
Jewish Marriage Council respectively.
The Chief Rabbi commented on the significance of the date of
the ceremony which was held prior to Rosh Hashana when our
davening includes the favorable response to the
Tefillos of our Imahos on the issues that Chana
aims to advise.
Mrs. Esther Tager spoke glowingly about Mrs. Groszman's
ability to act with such sensitivity as well as her
involvement in other community projects.
There were four other awardees at the ceremony from the
provinces.
