Ramat Shlomo Chazon Ish Synagogue Refurbished

by Betzalel Kahn

Thanks to the generosity of the well known philanthropist Rabbi Refoel Halperin, the Chazon Ish Beis Midrash in Jerusalem's Ramat Shlomo neighborhood has been completely refurbished. The Chazon Ish Beis Medrash serves both as a neighborhood central synagogue and a place of Torah study. In addition, its old library has been replaced.

Chareidi families began to occupy their newly built apartments in the Ramat Shlomo neighborhood two years ago. The neighborhood was populated by young couples as well as large families.

While residents are happy with the high standard of housing, the neighborhood lacks sufficient shuls and public buildings. Residents are forced to daven in crowded temporary structures.

The Chazon Ish Beis Medrash is one of the neighborhood's central synagogues. Because it is very crowded, its gabboim began to build a large structure for it about a year ago, along with a mikveh. Shul members contribute $2000 a year per family for membership dues.

The gabboim asked Rabbi Halperin to visit the shul and to inspect its aged furniture. As soon as he received their request, he came to Ramat Shlomo to see the shul. On that very day, he ordered new furniture. He also contributed a new library to replace the old volumes currently being used.

During Rabbi Halperin's visit, the gabboim mentioned the mikvo'os and shuls in other Jerusalem neighborhoods which had also been remodeled and refurbished, thanks to Rabbi Halperin's generosity.
