Seventy-one year old Roman Ashorov who managed to
survive the captivity of the Chechnyans, came to Israel last
week.
Ashorov remained in his city of Nalchik after his entire
family had moved to Israel. Alone, he was kidnapped. After
his kidnappers learned that he had relatives in Israel, they
called them, demanding a million dollars for his
release.
With the outbreak of the current war in Chechnya,
Ashorov was transferred from place to place by his
kidnappers. It seems that during one of these moves he
managed, at one point, to flee his captors and arrived in a
place where he could contact the Jewish Agency.
