Rabbi Gafni: "Barak Should Apologize to the Chareidim"; Israeli Scene Weighed Down by Barak's Troubles
by Eliezer Rauchberger, M. Plaut and Yated Ne'eman Staff

"Prime Minster Ehud Barak . . . should mount the Knesset platform as quickly as possible and apologize to the chareidi sector," Rabbi Moshe Gafni said during the debate on the Likud's no confidence motion in the government...

The Prime Minister and the Amutot
by Mordecai Plaut and Arye Zisman

Many nonprofit organizations (NPOs) sought to advance Barak's chances in the last elections. Last week, the State Comptroller's Report -- nicknamed "the Barak Amutot Report" -- was finally presented. It was extremely critical of the One Israel campaign, and of Israeli prime minister Ehud Barak, the victor in the last election and beneficiary of the election campaign.

OPINION & COMMENT

Barak May Survive, but not his Deal with Syria

If the lower echelons of an army do not follow the orders of the commander, it is not only their dereliction. It is clearly a failure of the commander to lead effectively. If the result of their dereliction is a big blunder, it clearly reflects on the man at the top.

Your Medical Questions Answered!
by Joseph B. Leibman, MD

I'd like to discuss what to expect in each kind of examination that a patient may undergo.

Regular X rays do not hurt, of course. Shielding is often necessary, which is a heavy lead robe worn over areas of the body that could be affected by radiation. Most X rays give off little radiation, but shielding is always a good idea.

Additional Luach Information:

The earliest time of Kiddush Levonoh -- I Adar

The time of Kiddush Levonoh everywhere in the world begins on Tuesday morning, 2 I Adar (Feb. 8), at 7:18 A.M., in Eretz Yisroel. In most of the world the actual time is from Tuesday night, the eve of 3 I Adar (Feb. 8) from the beginning of the night. However, in the extreme western countries Kiddush Levonoh can be made from the preceding night, Monday night the eve of 2 I Adar (Feb. 7) according to the difference in time zones in comparison to Eretz Yisroel.

This month there is a solar eclipse together with the late appearance of the new moon after the molad by eight hours that occurs at 3:03 P.M., on Shabbos parshas Mishpotim, Feb. 5. Since during the three days after the molad the moon approaches its apogee (its highest point) and advances slowly, an additional regression in the moon's appearance takes place. It is good to take into consideration the astronomical new moon coming together with the solar eclipse and not to make Kiddush Levonoh until three days after it. Accordingly, in the extreme western countries Kiddush Levonoh should not be made on Sunday night, and in the extreme eastern countries even on Tuesday night Kiddush Levonoh should not be made. In other eastern countries one should make Kiddush Levonoh only according to the difference in time zones in comparison to Eretz Yisroel.
