Hadassah Chasya Ehrentrau, o"h
by Yehuda Ariel
On erev rosh chodesh Elul, bereaved residents
of Rechasim accompanied Hadassah Ehrentrau,
o"h, on her last earthly journey. Twelve-year-
old Hadassah was due to begin seventh grade in
Rechasim's Bais Yaakov elementary school. However,
Hashgocho had different plans, and she was,
instead, brought to her final resting place. No
hespedim were delivered because of rosh
chodesh.
Hadassah was the daughter of HaRav Elchonon
Ehrentrau, chairman of the Rechasim Religious
Council, and his wife, Batya. The family is well-
known in the community for its chessed and
runs many gemachim in its home.
On 28 Av, Hadassah and her thirteen-year-old sister
went swimming in the local pool. The two began to
drown and while the lifeguard was resuscitating the
older girl, she was told of the disappearance of
the younger who had remained under water for a long
time. The two girls were taken to Rambam hospital,
where the Magen Dovid Adom intensive care unit
tried to resuscitate them. The older daughter was
released from the hospital and, boruch
Hashem, is in satisfactory condition. As soon as
the drowning became known, prayers were recited all
over the country for Hadassah's recovery. However,
she returned her pure soul to its Maker on Thursday
night.
Hadassah's friends relate that she would always
daven three times a day. Even during
vacation, she would go to the Knesses Chizkiyahu
yeshiva to daven betzibbur. She would study
the laws of loshon hora daily and, although
so young, she was very careful not to speak
loshon hora. She had also recently begun to
study Kitzur Shulchan Oruch.
A large throng of residents from Rechasim and the
entire northern region participated in the
levaya. Her father, HaRav Elchonon Ehrentrau,
parted from her with sorrow, mentioning her
outstanding middos. He asked all those
present to arouse themselves in the wake of the
harsh decree on his family and the local community.
He thanked all those who had davened for his
daughter's recovery in the name of his family. "The
many prayers will be of benefit to her soul," he
stressed.
