To the Editor:
I would like to bring to your attention the following letter
which I received from the Vaad Hakashrus of the Badatz
Eida HaChareidis.
Many, if not most people, do not know what it says here, and
they end up buying food thinking it has a good
hechsher, when in reality it has no hechsher
(or a hechsher which is not acceptable to them).
I received full permission from the Badatz to publicize this
letter.
Sincerely,
S. H.

Dear Mr. H.,
Referring to your questions.
1) Are ANGEL stores under the supervision of the Badatz
Eida HaChareidis?
2) If not, what are the problems?
Answer (1)
Our supervision is only for the bakery itself. We have no
supervision on any ANGEL store except for the one at the
bakery.
Answer (2)
There may be many problems at these stores:
[1] i.e. we have no supervision of what goes in and out of
the oven (milk, pareve, bishul akum, even
treifah).
[2] We have no supervision over any products made in the
store (i.e. sandwiches, sometimes pizza toppings, etc.)
[3] We have no control if all the products are from the Angel
factory, although we have never heard of any store having
taken from anywhere else as this would present a breach of
agreement between the store and Angel.
Also there are many of these stores that have a cafe or
restaurant which has many more problems.
Therefore, we want to make clear that:
ONLY PRODUCTS THAT ARE SEALED AND HAVE THE BADATZ STAMP are
under our supervision, we cannot be responsible for any open
product (i.e. rolls, rogelach, burekas).
PLEASE NOTE: the above applies also to all bakery outlets
(e.g. Abadi, Gerlitz-Man, etc.) with our hashgocha.
