Government Crisis Not Solved
by Mordecai Plaut
Prime Minister Barak continued to project his usual
confidence that everything would be worked out, but the basis
for this feeling was not evident with regard to the one-year-
old government's deep coalition crisis. The ideological rifts
that caused the discontent of NRP and Yisrael Ba'aliya have

question once again if Israel's judicial system has made a
systematic decision to oppose every issue advocated by the
Torah observant community.
The Secular Draft Dodgers
by B. Adler
It is not a secret that the left wing in Israel wants to see
the High Court force the draft on thousands of yeshiva
students. At the same time, however, it is becoming painfully
obvious to all that young Israelis themselves are less and
less interested in serving in the army.

The More Children the Better
The Knesset plenum gave a preliminary approval to a proposal
of UTJ MK Rabbi Shmuel Halpert to link the children's grants
distributed by the National Insurance Institute (NII --
