A visionary new Kollel under the guidance of London Av
Beis Din Dayan Chanoch Ehrentreu is to open after
Succos in Northwest London. The Kollel's mission is to
produce the talented outreach professionals, Rabbonim and
teachers who will form the next generation of communal
leaders.
Drawing on the experience of successful schemes in Eretz
Yisroel and the U.S., the Kollel will combine a high level of
Torah learning with a two-year intensive program of
professional training. Graduates will be equipped to fill key
positions in schools, communities and kiruv
organizations across the country.
Students will be offered an attractive bursary package
during the two-year program, and will be expected to make a
commitment to work in Jewish education, outreach or at the
Rabbinate on completion. Successful graduates of the program
will gain an accredited qualification, and semicha
where appropriate.
Dayan Ehrentreu highlighted the great shortage of
professionally qualified Rebbes and teachers in the
U.K.
"Existing communal rabbis and teachers are dealing
brilliantly with their communities and schools," explained
Dayan Ehrentreu. "But often they are severely overstretched
and unable to meet the demands made of them. The leaders and
educators of tomorrow not only have to be proficient in their
Torah knowledge, but also need to have first class
professional skills," he added.
"Appropriate training of those involved is essential for
our community."
Handpicked students for the Kollel will be selected not
only on the basis of their fine character and high caliber of
learning in their present yeshiva or kollel, but also for
their ability to communicate and share their knowledge and
enthusiasm for Torah.
Individual flair will be sought. Some candidates will
have the charisma to inspire others in outreach programs;
while others will have the qualities to become highly skilled
educators or Rabbonim.
Dayan Ehrentreu will formulate the program and will give
selected shiurim.
The Kollel will also benefit from the involvement of
Rabbi Menachem Kampf, a dynamic leading educator who has had
a profound impact on limmudei kodesh teaching in
England, and Rabbi Joseph Grunfeld, the inspirational founder
and head of the successful outreach organization SEED
UK.
Professional training will cover a wide range of
subjects including pedagogy, communication skills and
counseling. Talmidim will be able to develop their new
skills in these fields thereby giving them vital experience
to bring to their first positions after graduating from the
program.
