UTJ Leaves the Government Coalition Because of Shabbos Turbine Transport

The Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah of Degel HaTorah and of Agudas Yisroel have instructed the UTJ MKs to leave the coalition, following the transfer of the third superheater turbine component built by the Israel Military Industries in Ramat Hasharon to the Ashkelon power station on last Friday night parshas Nitzovim and Shabbos.

New Agreement Signed Between Israel and the Palestinians

On motzei Shabbos parshas Nitzovim, at an impressive ceremony held at Sham e-Sheikh, Israel and the Palestinian Authority signed a new agreement governing certain aspects of implementing an earlier agreement reached by the previous Netanyahu government at the Wye Conference Center in the United States. The agreement was signed by Israeli prime minister Ehud Barak and by Palestinian Authority chairman Yasser Arafat, and witnessed by Egypt, the United States and Jordan.

American Moetzes Calls for Increased Tefillos for 13 Iranian Jews as Trial Pends

In response to the recent development in Iran, where it was announced that the case of the thirteen imprisoned Jews has been handed over to the judiciary for trial, the Moetzes Gedolei haTorah of America has issued a call to Klal Yisroel to increase its tefillos as the urgency of the situation has just escalated.

Conversion Industry in Or Etzion Defies the Guidelines of Chief Rabbi Yisroel Meir Lau

The wholesale conversion industry in the special conversion court in Or Etzion functions in total defiance of the guidelines issued by the Ashkenazic Chief Rabbi Yisroel Meir Lau who is currently responsible for the Chief Rabbinate's Rabbinical Courts. Despite this fact, senior officials in the Chief Rabbinate have instructed the chairman of the Conversion Administration, Rabbi Yisrael Rosen, to approve all of the "conversions" conducted in that special conversion court. This information arises from an extensive investigation made by Yated Ne'eman's reporter.

Education Minister Plans Major Reforms in State Jewish Studies Programs

Minister of Education Yossi Sarid has announced in the Knesset that he intends to execute a "reform" in the general school system Jewish studies programs.

"Stashed away in the Ministry's drawer is something called the Shenhar Reports. This is very important and very interesting. It was adopted a number of times, and when a report is adopted a number of times, I know that no one plans to execute it. It goes into the drawer. Because I did not yet have the privilege to adopt it, I am about to adopt it. It is about Judaism: Judaism according to our world view."

HaRav Chanoch Henoch Karelenstein zt"l

This past Friday afternoon, Elul 22, a crowd headed by Maran HaRav Eliashiv shlita, roshei yeshiva, dayanim and rabbonim and including thousands of bnei Torah, accompanied HaRav Chanoch Henoch Karelenstein on his last earthly journey. HaRav Karelenstein was niftar on Friday morning, his soul having been purified by great suffering. He was 42 at the time of his petirah.

Tvuno High School Students Allotted Classrooms

Due to Mayor Ehud Olmert's intervention, the problem of the Tvunas Yaakov Bais Yaakov School in Ramot Alef of Jerusalem has been solved. Despite promises from City Hall that it was "making every effort to find a building for the classrooms," it took negotiations and demonstrations to procure a location for the school. Finally, they were given space on the campus of a school in Ramot.

At a meeting between the Finance Minster, Avraham Beige Shochet and the UTJ Knesset representatives, Rabbi Avrohom Ravitz and Rabbi Meir Porush, various issues were raised, which were later on discussed by the government at its deliberations on the budget. The Finance Minister responded to the requests of Rabbi Ravitz and Rabbi Porush, and agreed to reexamine a number of the issues which were liable to harm the chareidi community.
