Turbine Coalition Crisis Averted at the Last Minute; Weekday Solution Reported At Hand

Never in the history of the state has there been a Prime Minister who disdained his coalition partners as does Ehud Barak. The UTJ party, on the instructions of maranan verabonon, asked for nothing in exchange for joining the coalition two months ago except for an arrangement whereby the draft threat will not loom over the heads of yeshiva students. It didn't ask for benefits, nor for parliamentary positions nor jobs. Its only request was: Give me Yavneh and its sages.

Albert Cohen, the Manager of the Turbine Transfer Project, Talks to Yated Ne'eman

Authorities in Iran are planning to arrest more Jews on trumped up charges of spying for Israel and the United States, the daily newspaper Teheran Times reported. This coincides with statements by officials that the "ringleaders" of the spies are still at large.

29 Year Old Man Killed by Police in Borough Park

A mentally disturbed man who attacked police with a hammer was shot and killed by the police in Borough Park, Brooklyn, on Monday evening, according to preliminary reports. The extreme police reaction -- at least 12 shots were fired -- brought hundreds of area residents into the streets to protest what they saw as excessive police force.

Committee for the Prevention of the Draft of Yeshiva Students is Appointed

The Vaadas HaRabbonim of Yated Ne'eman made the following statement: When the Committee on yeshiva students was appointed, its tasks were said to include the so-called "Paragraph 4" which includes various proposals for alternate army service for chareidim.

Joint Conversion Institutes Have no Students

According to press reports, the joint conversion institutes which were established according to the recommendations of the Ne'eman Commission are not materializing due to a lack of registration. As previously reported in the Yated, the first joint institute was established in the northern city of Carmiel. No other programs were started due the fact that there is no demand for what they offer.
