A delegation of the Friends of Sha'arei Tzedek Hospital held
a memorial service for the 148 Jewish solders killed during
the Allied forces' landing at Normandy. The service was held
In honor of the 55th anniversary of the Allied landing on the
shores of France, earlier this month.
The 80-person delegation stopped in France on its way to
Israel to attend the convention of the Rectors Council of
Sha'arei Tzedek Hospital and the opening of the hospital's
new Center for Women and Newborn Infants.
The moving memorial ceremony was attended by Meno Retzker,
chairman of the International Rectors Council of Sha'arei
Tzedek; the rav of the city of Cannes; President of the
Federation of World War II Veterans; the U. S. military
attache from Paris; heads of the French Jewish community and
other public figures. The Keil molei rachamim prayer
was recited and the members of the delegation said
Kaddish.
