MK Rabbi Moshe Gafni told the chairman of the coalition's administration MK Ofir Pines, that for every anti-religious proposal which the members of the coalition present, he will present a counter-proposal.
This remark was made in the wake of MK Pines' claim that Rabbi Gafni had presented proposals for religiously inclined laws, such as on the issue of the Conversion and the Work and Rest Hour Law in the kibbutzim, in defiance of the coalition agreement, which states that proposals of that sort may be presented only by the government.
MK Rabbi Gafni replied that since coalition members such as Avi Yechezkel (One Israel) and Naomi Chazan (Meretz) presented anti-religious laws, in blatant breach of the coalition agreement, and were not asked to cancel them, he will continue to present counter-proposals, until the government decides to restrain its members on this point.
