Horror and Anguish at the Extremist Anti-Chareidi Campaign The horror felt by the chareidi community at the crude
campaign of hatred waged by Tommy Lapid and the Shinui party
has found some echoes in the broader community. Jews around the world are asked to join in solidarity with
the community in Eretz Yisroel. UTJ also has a special
department whose task it is to organize prayers for the
success of the effort at kiddush Sheim Shomayim in the
upcoming elections in Israel. UTJ Sets up Kibbutzim Headquarters
in Order to Prevent Massive Fraud UTJ has set up special Kibbutzim Headquarters, whose members

Restitution A campaign has been launched to identify and quantify lost
Jewish property in Arab countries, both as a means to close
the historic chapter on Sephardi life in those countries and
to counter Arab claims for restitution for property in pre-
state Palestine. Now is the Time to Make a
Difference The right reason to vote is that we are bid to do so by the
gedolei ume'orei hador, whose advice and rulings we
follow in every important area of life. Dear Diary - Part One
Most of us live, boruch Hashem, in a very insular
community, and tend to forget there's a world Out There.
Which is fine, except for the occasional encounters we have
with people from the other side of the Looking Glass who just
happen to be our blood brothers, eager for some kind of
contact with Real Genuine Yiddishkeit.
HaRav Weiss, the Minchas Yitzchok

Eruv Tavshilin must be made on Thursday, Erev
Shavuos (May 20). Shavuos falls on Friday, 6
Sivan (May 21) and in Chutz La'aretz also on Shabbos,
7 Sivan (May 12). From this Shabbos until Parshas
Pinchos there will be a different krias haTorah in
Eretz Yisroel and Chutz La'aretz.
Birchos HaTorah on Shavuos
Those who remain awake the entire Shavuos night can
continue to study Torah after the alos hashachar until
they find someone to be motzi them with birchos
haTorah (Dinim Vehanhogos of Maran the Chazon Ish
zt'l, Orach Chaim 1:12, referring in general to
someone who did not sleep a whole night).
If that person slept a sheinas kevah in bed on erev
Shavuos and later was up the entire night on
Shavuos he is in any case obligated to make birchos
haTorah (Mishnah Berurah 47:28 in the name of R'
Akiva Eiger. In the above mentioned section of Dinim
Vehanhogos is a note pointing out that Maran HaRav Aharon
Kotler zy'a directed his yeshiva students to follow
without any pikpukim R' Akiva Eiger's ruling.)
According to this that person should stop studying at alos
hashachar and after alos hashachar should say the
brochos himself. It is desirable to arrange that the
person who is motzi others (those who did not sleep
during the day) should do so immediately after alos
hashachar.
For such matters the alos hashachar is the "later" one
of seventy-two minutes. According to the Israeli Summer Clock
in Yerushalayim it is at 4:16 A.M., in Bnei Brak, Tel-Aviv,
and the Dan area at 4:17 A.M., in Haifa at 4:13 A.M., in
London at 2:21 A.M. and in Eilat at 4:25 A.M.
