At the behest of gedolei Yisroel shlita, a joint steering forum has been set up to assist in the formation of new Torah communities in Northern Israel and to promote chareidi settlement in northern cities. The initiative was intended to ameliorate the community's housing situation across the country by building chareidi residential areas in the North, which is considered the only realistically viable option.
The forum members include representatives selected by maranan verabbonon shlita based on their proven expertise in municipal affairs and dealing with various government and city authorities: Rabbi Avrohom Rubinstein, deputy mayor of Bnei Brak, Rabbi Shlomo Rosenstein, a member of the Jerusalem City Council, and Rabbi Avrohom Mishkovsky, a member of the Rechasim City Council.
Maranan verabbonon shlita have instructed the forum members at first to assist in starting housing complexes in Natzeret Illit's Har Yonah neighborhood, and to contribute their professional experience in starting chareidi communities — from building public facilities and religious services, as well as schools, yeshivas and kollelim, to assessing job opportunities.
