World Jewish Population Up to 13.4 Million

A report by demographer Sergio Della Pergola of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem shows that for the first time in 30 years the world Jewish population has grown. It should be noted that the definition of "Jew" used by Professor Della Pergola is a sociological one and not a halachic one. According to the report, in 2010 the number of Jews rose by more than 80,000 to a worldwide total of 13.428 million, of which 82 percent live in Israel and the US.


Knesset Has No Halachic or Moral Authority to Consider Conversion Matters

"The Knesset has no halachic or moral authority to decide on halachic matters," a spokesman for the Vaad HaRabbonim LeInyonei Giyur said in response to a decision by the Ministerial Committee for Legislative Matters that the conversions performed by the IDF over the years are valid, even though most of the "converts" are non-Jews and did not keep a single Shabbos.
