Remedia Non-Dairy Formula Abroad May Also be Unsuitable
by Yated Ne'eman Staff

Following the panic over Remedia infant formula, Hatzoloh of Jerusalem consulted leading doctors and professors at the Health Ministry and Hadassah Hospital, with the assistance of medical consultant Rabbi Binyomin Fisher of Magen LeCholeh. The information gathered has been transmitted to the appropriate figures in the chareidi sector in Eretz Yisroel and abroad. The Remedia company claimed that it does not export the product at all.

On motzei Shabbos, heads of Hatzoloh New York who remain in constant contact with Hatzoloh Jerusalem, contacted Chairman Rabbi Dovid Greenwald to ascertain whether the prohibition against non-dairy Remedia applies to the same product sold outside of Israel and whether warnings should be made public on Shabbos. The Health Ministry recommends against the consumption of Remedia's non-dairy formula abroad as well, particularly if this is the infant's only source of nutrition.

According to reports, a child in Boston was hospitalized with symptoms of the illness after securing a private supply of the product from Israel.
