Prime minister Ariel Sharon has a full head of steam as he
advances steadily -- and none too slowly -- towards approval
of his disengagement plan.
Dozens of gedolei Yisroel including HaRav Aharon
Yehuda Leib Shteinman and three prominent roshei yeshivos
from the US participated in the annual Lev L'Achim convention
in Bnei Brak last Monday along with an overflow crowd of
thousands of avreichim from around the country who
sacrifice valuable hours of their time to disseminate Torah,
educate yaldei Yisroel and engage in outreach.
The Jerusalem District Court exonerated Elchanan Chakon,
former owner of Photo Allen, who was charged with the murder
of Rav Yehuda Samet zt"l two-and-a- half years ago.
Judge Yoel Tzur determined that Chakon was acting in self-

The Education and Finance Ministries are reenacting an old

will now be required to carry identification all day in the
event a surprise inspection is conducted.
After extensive efforts, Jerusalem Mayor Rabbi Uri
Lupoliansky managed to persuade the national water supplier
Mekorot to disconnect Jerusalem from the national water
carrier in order to supply city residents with fully kosher
water during Pesach. Businesses Unite to Combat Shabbos Desecration A large group of Shabbos-observant businessmen joined
recently to set up Shabbat Menuchah, an organization slated
to operate among retail outlets, business owners and food
markets to encourage shops to close on Shabbos by providing
consumers an incentive to purchase products only at
businesses that shut their doors on Shabbos.
Campaign to Prevent Haifa's Grand Kanyon from Opening on
Shabbos United Torah Jewry representatives, together with
representatives from other religious parties, met for an
emergency meeting with Mayor Yona Yahav after the Grand
Kanyon shopping center announced it would open its doors on
Shabbos. Yahav took a firm stance against the idea, noting
the mall's proximity to the city's chareidi neighborhoods.
The various representatives intend to meet with the mall's

The targeted killing of Sheik Ahmed Yassin, founder and
leader of Hamas, has generated widespread fury in South
Africa and in particular in its 800,000- strong Muslim
community. While no actual attacks against Jews were recorded
(so far) beyond a few isolated instances of verbal
harassment, the level of anti- Jewish invective, sometimes
combined with threats, has been raised to unprecedented

By all legitimate means, the government -- any government --
should catch anyone who cheats it. We make no defense of
those who lie or misrepresent the truth in any way in order
to collect money to which they are not entitled. The
government should catch whoever breaks the law and take
appropriate punitive action. We say this clearly so that

chol hamoed we say vesein brochoh instead of vesen
tal umottor livrochoh.
From Tuesday night, Motzei Yom Tov Rishon Shel Pesach,
we count sefiras ha'omer until Shavuos.
The seforim hakedoshim write to make a meal on the
sixteenth of Nisan to remember the se'udas Esther that
she made when Homon was hanged (Mishnah Berurah, 490:2
from the Mogen Avrohom).
Shevi'i Shel Pesach falls on Monday, 21 Nisan (April
12) and in Chutz Le'aretz on Tuesday, 22 Nisan (April
13) is Yom Tov Sheini Shel Goliyos - Shmini Shel
Pesach.
Many are accustomed to read Pirkei Ovos after
Minchah of Shabbos from Pesach until Rosh HaShanah
Our minhag is not to say a Yom Kippur Koton and
surely not to fast in the month of Nisan.
