Police Officials Say Meretz Activists Unnecessarily Provocative on Shabbos

Jerusalem's Police Department officials sharply criticized Meretz politicians and activists for causing excessive and unnecessary provocation and contention in their fight against the justified demands of chareidi residents to close traffic routes in the hearts of their neighborhoods on Shabbos.

Utensils Manufactured by the Phoenicia Glass Company of Yeruchom Require Tevillo

HaRav Nissim Karelitz recently issued a psak halocho, to the effect that all of the utensils manufactured by the Phoenicia company in the southern city of Yeruchom require tevillo. The reason for this psak is that Phoenicia, the only glass bottle manufacturer in Israel, has recently signed a deal with an active non-Jewish partner of Iranian descent in order to enable the firm to emerge from its long-term financial difficulties.

Compromise in Montefiore Tomb Controversy

A number of months ago, the town of Yehud began to make plans for the election of its Ashkenazic rav. Already then, HaRav Chaim Kanievsky entreated HaRav Yonah Torchin to fill the shoes of HaRav Nisan Torchin, HaRav Yonah's illustrious father, and even influenced others do their utmost to ensure his election. The elections will take place next month on 17 Elul, and many efforts are being made on HaRav Torchin's behalf.
