Defense Minister Barak: "I've Decided to Implement the Draft for Yeshiva Students"
A grim development regarding the upcoming elections: Defense Minister Barak, whose party is hovering around the threshold for winning a Knesset seat, has apparently decided to run his campaign for the next Knesset on the backs of yeshiva students. In a meeting of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Security Committee on Monday, which dealt with the law of army service for yeshiva students, he declared that he is determined to put the law into action.

Over one hundred rabbonim from communities throughout Israel gathered this past Monday to the "Conference of Community Rabbonim" headed by gedolei Yisroel and led by HaRav Aharon Leib Shteinman and HaRav Nissim Karelitz to formulate a operational plan of protection for the chareidi camp against the devastating threat of technological advances, the foremost being Internet, iPhone etc., which has ensnared so many victims and afflicted so many entire families.

A year ago the Kinneret was 213.46 meters below sea level, 1.11 meters below its level now. One of the most notable and renowned of the last generation's luminaries was no doubt HaRav Meir Shapira. Whether the underlying cause is his introduction of the Daf Hayomi that he initiated to the Knessia Gedolah and which became accepted worldwide, or his holy yeshiva which became the springboard for roshei yeshiva and their yeshivos across the continents; it makes no difference. The fact is that the name HaRav Meir Shapira pulsates with life today and every day - almost 70 years after his passing.
