70,000 Visitors at Kever Rochel on Yahrtzeit
By Yechiel Sever
An estimated 70,000 visitors arrived at Kever Rochel on Tuesday, 11
Cheshvan, the day of Rochel Imeinu's yahrtzeit, to pray for
both individual and collective needs. The flow of visitors began on
Motzei Shabbos, and swelled on Tuesday, continuing until the
evening.
Rabbi Yosef Shvinger, director of the National Center for Holy Sites,
said he was pleased with this year's arrangements to accommodate the
large number of visitors. The ezras noshim was especially
packed, but following requests by police and other security personnel
the women tried to keep their visits brief to make room for other
women.
"This year demonstrated that when you stick to your goal and plan
right, the massive convergence on Kever Rochel can be handled
smoothly, besiyata deShmaya," said Shvinger. He also noted that
the National Center for Holy Sites "has not dismissed the idea of
constructing a special electric conveyor system in the ezras
noshim that would create a rotating and dignified route on the day
of the yahrtzeit and would channel the public
automatically."
