Haifa Students Suspended Over Tefillin Booth in Their School

By L.S. Wasserman

Three students at a Haifa high school who "dared" to offer tefillin to other students were suspended from school by the principal, who was apparently alarmed by any trace of religious observance.

According to a media report, on Monday the students set up a tefillin laying booth in the schoolyard, after other students expressed an interest in the mitzvah. In response the principal decided to suspend them for an undetermined period of time, until further notice. The three students were astonished by the treatment they received and by the fact they were suspended without explanation.
