HaRav Eliashiv Tells Educators to Foster Ahavas Torah and Ambition in Learning

By Yechiel Sever

During a gathering of rabbonim and educators at the home of Maran HaRav Yosef Sholom Eliashiv shlita at his home Monday night, in preparation for the Fourth Education Conference, HaRav Eliashiv said, "To enable students to withstand the tests of today's unbridled generation, educators should lay emphasis on instilling ahavas Torah, careful adherence to halacha, a fear of judgment and faith in the teachings of Chazal."

Rabbenu offered words of chizuk and answered questions posed by the educators and principals.

"Educators should make a special effort to foster ambition to a life of learning," he said. HaRav Eliashiv also touched on coping with varying levels of achievement in a single classroom. "The teacher must view every child like an only child of HaKadosh Boruch Hu, and when the child is seen from this perspective, it brings success and siyata deShmaya in fostering the child's growth."

He also spoke approvingly of the upcoming conference. "When educators gather together to strengthen themselves in their holy work," he said, "they merit siyata deShmaya, sanctifying the Name of Heaven and increasing the legions of Torah."
