Materna Launches Cholov Yisroel Formula for Hospital Use

by Yated Ne'eman Staff

"I'm pleased to announce that in the Neonatal Ward of Mayanei Hayeshua we have introduced Ready-to-Feed (RTF) Materna on a base of Kosher Lemehadrin Cholov Yisroel," said Rabbi Gershon Leider, director of Mayanei Hayeshua Medical Center, during a short ceremony held at the hospital to mark the first launch of the new product in Israel. Present at the ceremony were the hospital's rabbonim, ranking members of the medical staff and representatives from Materna.

Rabbi Leider added that the infant formula developed on a Cholov Yisroel base meets strict international standards and the Health Ministry's requirements for infant formula, and is as close as possible to mother's milk.

"In the name of the rabbis of the hospital, in the name of the administration and in the name of the parents, I would like to applaud the representatives of Materna, the rabbi of the hospital, HaRav Yosef Hoffner, and the director of the Neonatal and Premature Infants Ward, Dr. Yaakov Landman, for their concerted efforts to develop the highly demanded product."

According to Health Ministry requirements, milk-based sterile liquid formula must be used in neonatal wards. Until now hospital wards relied on a special heter for baby formula issued by leading poskim, but they were constantly asked to try to develop a compound using Cholov Yisroel.

The Mayanei Hayeshua administration and Rabbi Hoffner asked Materna to seek a solution for RTF Materna based on Cholov Yisroel. Following extensive efforts and tremendous logistical investment Materna succeeded in developing a suitable product.
