HaRav Eliashiv: Kollel Support Takes Precedence

Maran HaRav Yosef Sholom Eliashiv shlita told the Admor of Tzanz this week that kollel men should have first priority in funding gathered to support Torah.
During the visit of the Admor to HaRav Eliashiv's home they discussed the financial difficulties of the Torah world, including yeshivas and kollelim, and the importance of the mitzvah of supporting Torah study. The Tzanzer Rebbe asked Maran which mitzvah should receive priority: supporting avreichim or writing a sefer Torah.
HaRav Eliashiv said supporting avreichim takes precedence, since it is a means of supporting the essence of Torah study and it supports Torah on a broad scale. The Admor then mentioned that his father, the Tzanzer Rebbe zt"l, issued a similar ruling.
