Another Attack Against Jewish Activists at University of London
By Arnon Yaffeh, Paris
"British universities are reminiscent of the antisemitic persecution
against Jewish students at Berlin universities in the 1930s," said one
of the leaders of the Jewish community in Britain this week. Students
identifiable as Jews are harassed and beaten in the hallways,
particularly if they protest against antisemitism on campus. British
academia is on a track towards being out of bounds for Jews, even
after the revelations regarding financial and other ties with
dictatorial Arab regimes.
The latest antisemitic attack took place at the School of Oriental and
African Studies. A pro-Israel activist was hospitalized after
sustaining blows and a bite on the cheek by Muslim students there.
Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the attack. They
were released without charges within a few hours.
According to a report in the Jewish Chronicle, four activists
from pro-Israel organization StandWithUs came to protest a Palestinian
event held as part of "Israeli Apartheid Week" events inspired by the
notorious Durban Conference. "They took a known risk by venturing into
the lions' den of the antisemitic arena in British academia," said one
student, who was forced to conceal his Jewish identity in order to
study there.
