Bais Yaakov Principals Meet to Seek Guidance on Seminary Issues

By Yechiel Sever

Seminary principals on the board of the Seminaries Union convened a meeting at the home of Maran HaRav Yosef Sholom Eliashiv shlita to confer with him on issues related to chinuch and Bais Yaakov seminaries — both halacha and hashkofo — affecting both the present generation and generations to come.

During the gathering the principals asked Maran about today's curriculum at the seminaries, which focuses on education and kindergarten instruction, though for many years a large portion of the graduates have found no job openings in teaching, while today various other professions are available that allow women to bring in income to help sustain the family and enable their husbands to continue their kollel studies.

HaRav Eliashiv held that religious studies should be emphasized and given priority over other subjects, while directing girls towards workplaces that are suited to their religious upbringing.
